What is cancer ? Cancer is not a type of disease, but it occurs in many forms. There are more than 100 types of cancer. Most cancers are named after the organ or cells in which they begin - for example, cancer that starts in the colon is called colon cancer, a cancer that starts in the basal cells of the skin.
