Loyalty

European Ashram,  Bad Antogast, Germany 30th July 1997 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 41 - Loyalty Loyalty is the way in which a mature and integrated mind behaves. Loyalty signifies an undivided wholeness of consciousness and shows a richness of the mind. When the mind is not integrated it is feverish, disloyal and opportunistic.  Disloyalty comes out of opportunism which reveals shortsightedness of one’s destiny. Integrity or wholeness is essential to being healthy. A divided mind will gradually lead to schizophrenia and other mental and physical disorders. Loyalty is a real strength and will have the support of nature in the long run.  Fear and ambition are impediments to loyalty. Loyalty is needed both in the material and the spiritual plane. Loyalty is essential to destroy, create or maintain any institution, group or society. Loyalty means believing in the continuity of commitment. Honouring commitment is loyalty.  It takes you beyond the duali...

Respect (Continued)

Bangalore Ashram, India 18th February 1998 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 40 - Respect (Continued) Respect everyone as you respect me, but do not expect from everyone what you expect from me. You usually do it the other way. You do not respect everyone as you respect me, but you expect them to give you joy and you expect them to behave ideally.  When they do not live up to your expectations, you get frustrated and you blame or curse them. By cursing, you lose your spiritual energy. When you can bless, your energy goes up. The world is full of differences, arguments are inevitable.  With forbearance, patience and wisdom, skillfully make your way. If you find fools around you, they I’ll make you wiser. The number of fools around you indicates the strength of your centeredness. Do not try to get rid of them. If you are not centred, you will not have the patience to endure them.  When you are totally established, you find that even fools come up with wisdom. ...

Respect

Bangalore Ashram, India, 6th September, 1995 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 39 - Respect Why do you respect someone? You respect them because of good qualities such as honesty, wisdom, love and talents. But all these change in time and when they change, you lose respect. You only respect greatness. I have tremendous respect for each and every one of you.  Not for your greatness or wisdom or talent, but for the very person you are. I respect everyone totally, so I can never lose respect for anybody, however they may be. Someone does not need to be great in order to be respected. Respecting life makes you great.  Do not look for respect from others, that makes you weak. Have respect for the self and no one can take your self respect. When others respect you, it is not because you possess some virtues. It is because of their greatness. If you say God is great, it means you are great.  God is already great, your saying so does not affect God. When you respect...

I have changed companies and places, still I find so much boredom in my life. Please advise how to come out of boredom?

Question - Gurudev, I have changed companies and places, still I find so much boredom in my life. Please advise how to come out of boredom?  Gurudev Sri Sri - When you have a passion or a commitment in life for a bigger cause, boredom will vanish. Boredom comes because you are only focused on your own pleasure. If you are only thinking about yourself, about how much more joy or pleasure you can get for yourself, you will get bored, because you will not get it anywhere. However, when your heart beats for others, for something higher, something finer and something more meaningful, then there is no boredom. The commitment level in our life indicates our enthusiasm or our boredom. If our commitment is low, boredom is bound to set in. If our commitment is higher, then boredom will never be anywhere around the corner. Boredom will never be anywhere near you.

How to handle criticism without arguing and fighting?

Question - Gurudev, when someone criticizes me I switch off and go into hiding. How to handle criticism without arguing and fighting? Gurudev Sri Sri - Know that you're magnanimous. Every time you face a criticism know that you are vast like the ocean, and you can take in anything. When you feel small that is when you don't feel like taking criticism. When you feel you are very big, then you think, ‘I’m much bigger than this criticism, let me take it in’.

How do I increase my self worth and self esteem?

Question - Gurudev, how do I increase my self worth and self esteem? Gurudev Sri Sri - There is no way on the planet earth. You cannot increase your self esteem even if the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. Even if that is possible, it is impossible to increase your self esteem. Just accept it, if you think you don't have it and you try to have it, it is not going to work. You simply have to recognise that it is already there.

Miracles Happen For Those Who Believe

It was in the year 2007 that a life changing event occurred with a boy named Sagnik, 4 years of age, who happened to take admission in my mother’s school “The Divine Grace”. In the initial days, he presented a condition in which he wasn’t able to speak at all. The only word that would come out of his mouth was “Ma” (Mother). He could not say anything else apart from this. It was very distressing for the child and equally agonizing for the parents. Even the doctors failed to make him speak. My heart would sink each time I’d see this little boy.  Miracles Happen For Those Who Believe But as Sri Sri says “Anything can change any time, in any manner”, the change did take place in Sagnik’s life. One fine morning, as the classes were going on, miraculously, he fell down and cut his tongue. There was slight bleeding but the teachers handled the situation. However, for the next 2 days, he was absent. We all prayed to Guruji, for taking care of Sagnik so that he could lead a normal life lik...

Dreams gets fulfilled

I would like to share my story with Guruji, right from the scratch. Well, the journey started in the year 2009. I got into Engineering College. I then did the Art of Living Basic course, but couldn’t continue doing Short Kriya on a regular basis. You know the engineering life. I would find it difficult to make time. But at the end, I knew I could if I really wanted to. As they say “Nothing is impossible!” Then in 2012, Guruji visited my home in Durgapur (West-Bengal). My parents are active volunteers serving AOL since years. Well, it was that day which changed my life completely. Guruji spoke with me for a while, and I showed my urge to study abroad. He just asked me one question “Kriya karte ho daily”? (Do you do your kriya daily?). Then, I replied “Haan Gurudev, kabhi kabhi” (Yes Guruji, sometimes). He saw my expression and gave me a smile and said “Har din kiya karo”(you must do it daily). He then asked me “Tumhe sach mein jaana hai USA padhne”? (Do you really want to go in the US a...

My Guru’s Blessing worked for me

On 22 November, 2012, which was a very special day of my life, I entered into the magical world of the Art of Living. I did the Part1, Yes!+ and DSN courses. I heard a lot about the Advance Course, but did not get a chance to do the course because it was a full day course of four days and somehow I was not able to take leave for it. My craving for doing the course was increasing day by day. One day, Saleel Bhaiya, who was my Part1 and DSN Teacher happened to talk to me and suggested that I go to the Ashram for an Advance course with Guruji.  I liked the idea very much but my mom and dad refused to give permission to go alone so far. Later on, fortunately, they agreed to send me to Bangalore on Maha Shivaratri with my friends. I was happy in doing the course in Mumbai only, but Guruji always gives me the best, so He wanted me to do the course in the Ashram so that I could have the best experience of this course. In order to reach the Bangalore ashram, I needed to travel by bus for a...

In the worst of situations

Gurudev came to Delhi on 18th March, 2014 and his flight was supposed to land at 4:00PM. As I couldn't leave office before 5:00PM, I thought I would go to meet him after he reaches Vasant Vihar where he was supposed to be staying.  To my surprise and his wish the flight got delayed by 2 hours and by that time we could easily reach airport and meet him. So we reached at the airport but we did not have any conveyance to go from the airport to Vasant Vihar.  Before he landed he even fixed that and we got a car arranged. Guruji finally landed and we met him at the airport and went behind him to Vasant Vihar. We reached just in time when he was there and I again got a tap on the head with the bouquet of flowers he was holding.  Then he went inside and we waited in the hall amidst hundreds of people. He finally came out in the hall and took our hearts away. As he rightly says he is a "Chit Chor" (who steals the heart too).  On being asked to meet one to one, Gurudev replie...

Inexplicable power, a divine pull, that made me go through a deep experience.

Does a Guru know exactly what you need and when? Psychologist and senior Art of Living faculty member, DR PREMA SESHADRI’s travels got deepened with a copy of an ancient scripture Her Guru mysteriously guided her towards.  During the late 90s, Gurudev had asked us all to read Swami Venkateswarananda’s Yoga Vashistha. I couldn’t wait to get started. It was perhaps only half hour into the book I realized I had got stuck on page 7. I could not comprehend a single sentence! I felt stuck in a maze and put the book away. A few months later, I traveled to the German ashram. I went to the meeting room, sat at his feet. He looked at me with those smiling eyes and asked, “How was it?” For a few seconds, I didn’t quite understand what He was asking about. And then, I got it! And I just said, “I hated it. I couldn’t understand a single thing in that book.” Gurudev smiled and said, “I have a solution for your problem. Don’t read the book.” I was so relieved. But then, my Master is not ever just...

Give it to them

Celebrity Fashion Stylist, shares one of her sweet and special memory with her Guru. Many years ago when Gurudev used to be in Shakti Kutir, I was sitting there amongst other devotees and I had a thought, a wish. I really wanted to ask Gurudev to give me something that I could take back for all the volunteers in Mumbai. That would make them so happy if they get something from him. This thought kept playing on my mind but I didn’t say anything because I felt really shy to say that.  After a little while Gurudev got up and went into his room and came out with a brown paper bag and lowered the bag. There were some people sitting around me and all of them raised their hands to get the bag. But he dropped it in my lap and he just said, "Give it to them." I just looked at him and was stunned. “Oh my God,” I thought, "How has he read my thoughts! How does he do this?" Obviously he does this all the time but this time it became so evident that he could read my thoughts. Thi...

All the doubts, frustration, questions in my mind were washed away forever

I am associated and connected to Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji since 12 years now. Since then I have been hearing from all the teachers, devotees and the Master himself - "Do my work and I will do your work". But I never had this experience all these years and I really did doubt it. I have been travelling for satsangs and courses to nearby places while also looking after my business (Manufacturing paints). Whenever I was out of my factory, there used to be some or the other problem that worried me.  I once spoke to Gurudev in Teacher's Refresher Meet about it, and He asked me to chant 'Om Namah Shivaya' and do Ganesh Aradhana (chanting for good luck) . Although I started doing that, the problem still continued and I started doubting more. I was also going through lot of problems in my business and even on the personal front. Due to this I was continuously e-mailing Guruji about the issues but didn't get any reply. This went on for 2 years. In between, I had ...

My Mother’s Dream Fulfilled

After my mother underwent a major gallbladder surgery, she repeatedly expressed her desire to attend an advance course at Gurudev’s ashram. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the distance between our home and the ashram in Bangalore, we were unable to find a suitable course for her. I sought help from many teachers, but to no avail. Eventually, we heard about a course in Mysore, but it was not conducted in Hindi, which was the only language my mother understood. Disappointed, we dropped the plan. During her visit to my home in Indore, my mother shared with me a dream she had of visiting Gurudev’s ashram. Her yearning only grew stronger. One evening, as my brother was booking their return tickets, I was scrolling through WhatsApp and came across a friend’s post about completing an advanced course at Omkareshwar ashram. Gurudev’s grace intervened, and I quickly obtained my friend’s contact information. My mother was enrolled in the course overnight, and volunteers even came to pic...

Feeling completely helpless

Life has been nothing less than splendid after the Master came into my life. He has been there in mind and spirit even when the whole world has been against me. This incident happened in 2011. At that time I had just moved to a new building in Bombay along with my parents. From the very beginning, I did not feel good vibrations from that apartment.  There was this particular watchman who was a thug and always used to pass lewd gestures at me and other women. Even after repeatedly admonishing him he would threaten me back saying that he did not do anything wrong. He used to drink also during working hours but nobody paid heed. I complained to my parents many a times but they just asked me to ignore him. But that man did not stop with his indecent activities. One day while I came back from a Satsang he passed a lewd gesture and I was livid. I fought with him and came back home and told my parents. I was reduced to tears when my parents started shouting at me saying that I should not ...

A miracle of Grace

''If that unseen Force had not pushed us out of the flood waters, we would have surely drowned. This was nothing but a miraculous escape from death, thanks to the Master.'' says MAKRAND JADHAV, one of the leading trainers for the Art of Living's Youth Leadership Training Programme.  It was a late night in August 2011 and my friend and I were driving home from Katepur Village in Latur. It was raining heavily and there was water-logging all along the route. We were driving through an incessant heavy downpour and we could barely see the road ahead of us.  Suddenly, we realised that we were on a slope and the car started slipping off the road. We frantically applied the brakes and to our utter dismay, the car spiralled and did a 90 degree turn. The car started sinking as it entered a gushing water stream. For a moment it looked like a huge monster waiting to swallow us up. We lowered the windows, so that we could jump off. Suddenly, our car hit a tree and came...

TV Connection

Certain things in life happen unknowingly and without any explicit effort. Knowing about Gurudev for the first time was one such incident for me. Way back in 2006 I travelled to Bangalore on office work and happened to browse TV channels to pass time on a Sunday. On one of the channels, I spotted a program where a huge gathering of people was singing beautiful Bhajans in chorus while seated on a very large ground in an orderly manner.  This scene connected with me and I continued to watch till the end. I realized that this is a live telecast of the celebration of the 50th Birthday of a saintly person where best wishes were pouring from across countries/religions. And I think that was the day when first time Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji took me under his grace even though I was just a curious onlooker through the TV at that time. Within 2 years of this, my movement to Bangalore happened from up North, and as the first thing, I visited AOL Ashram and had Darshan in one of his Satsang Sess...

Is it true that if we have less number of desires, there’s a higher chance of them getting fulfilled?

Question - Gurudev, Is it true that if we have less number of desires, there’s a higher chance of them getting fulfilled?  Gurudev Sri Sri - Yes! When you have less things to do, you will do it really attentively. You put your 100% energy, focus into it when there are less things to do. If you have many things to do, you need to have that much energy, broad awareness and consciousness. And if you’re enlightened, you can do a million things without getting bogged down by anything!

SINCERITY AND BLESSINGS

Weekly Knowledge 72 Bangalore Ashram 24 Oct 1996  India SINCERITY AND BLESSINGS Q: Many ask for blessings but only a few will receive it. Why? A: The giver is anyway giving but the taker is not there - the sincerity is missing. One who gives blessings gives it freely but the one who receives it has to be sincere. Sincerity is the qualification to receive blessings. And everyone is free to be sincere at any point of time or space. Q: Why do people choose to be sincere only sometimes? A: Because of the illusion that they are going to miss some mundane pleasure. Hankering after pleasure makes them insincere. When you are sincere you simply enjoy pleasure. Poor people fight for food. Rich people share their food. Richer are those people who share power. Richer still are those who share fame. Richest are those who share themselves. Richness of a person is indicated by his ability to share and not by what he hoards. Godliness is enjoying sharing fame. "Sincerity is being in touch with y...
