When Divine Chaos Unfolds

The Master ensures that fun and chaos go hand in hand. Fun alone is akin to plain vanilla, it’s not His style to serve His devotees anything less than a rich blend of both. These Guru Stories are ongoing tales of His divine orchestration, each one filling my heart with immense gratitude.  One such story unfolded after our wonderful trip to Kashmir. We were scheduled to take our flight back to Delhi from Jammu, the nearest airport, at 8 am on June 10th. However, the universe had a different plan for us. The night of June 9th, while staying at our cousin’s place, we decided to check our mailbox, a decision that would soon prove to be a blessing. It was then that we realized our flight had been rescheduled to 12 noon on June 10th, a change our travel agent had communicated to us three days earlier. The next morning, we were determined to reach the airport on time, yet the cosmos seemed to conspire against us. Our cousin had her own farewell traditions that added an extra 1...

Gurudev’s Silent Gift: A Thought Manifested

Many years ago, in the sacred presence of Gurudev at Shakti Kutir, a cherished moment unfolded. Sitting among devoted souls, a heartfelt wish sprouted within me. I yearned to request Gurudev for something tangible, a token of love for the dedicated volunteers in Mumbai. Yet, my shyness restrained the words from escaping my lips. As time gently moved forward, Gurudev rose from His seat, disappearing briefly into His room. Returning with a humble brown paper bag, He lowered it, and a sense of anticipation filled the air. Those around me eagerly raised their hands, hoping to receive the precious gift.  To my astonishment, Gurudev chose a different path, placing the bag gently in my lap with a simple directive: “Give it to them.” In that profound moment, I stood in awe, contemplating the divine connection that had just unfolded. How had Gurudev sensed my unspoken desire? This wasn’t mere intuition; it was a revelation of His boundless awareness. While He undoubtedly perform...

Within 12 hours in the ICU you have completely recovered, it's a miracle.

I don't know how to show my gratitude to Gurudev for all the blessings He has poured on me and my family. This is one of the most wonderful incident that I want to share with you all. It was 28 th of April 2016.  Morning when I woke up I could not move my left hand and left foot The left side was paralyzed (I knew it only later). Till the previous night I was normal, did all the work and also finished 90 percent of the packing to go to Ashram to attend the AMP for teachers from 1st May. But now all of a sudden I am unable to move. Quickly my husband and daughter took me to the nearby hospital and immediately medical help was given, starting from MRI scan which showed a clot in my brain and doctors had to decide on the line of treatment.  Waking up by 6 and finding myself in the ICU in an hour - I could not comprehend anything nor accept the situation and was resisting everything that was being done by the nurse staff. Suddenly after a few minutes of resistance it...

The Shower Of Grace At The World Culture Festival

In 2010, I had the profound privilege of meeting Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at the Bangalore International Ashram. This divine encounter had an unforeseen consequence: my husband, Pritam Mahadik, and I became an Art of Living teacher, which was an incredible blessing. Our lives have since been interwoven with Guru stories, but one particular event, from March 2016, stands out. It was the celebration of Art of Living’s 35-year journey and the grand World Culture Festival on the banks of the Yamuna River in Delhi.  Despite numerous challenges and negative media coverage, our faith in Gurudev’s Sankalpa remained unshaken. We decided to make it a family event, and we secured our tickets well in advance. This, however, coincided with our son Atharva’s final school exams. We met with his school principal to explain the situation and secured her consent for him to miss two papers. In our hearts, it was a family function with the Art of Living. The festival proved to be a hea...

Knowledge is like an umbrella for you - a shelter.

Rishikesh, India, 10th April, 1997 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 10 - Fear On the path, people use even knowledge as a defence against criticism. Do not use knowledge as a defence. Knowledge is like an umbrella for you - a shelter, not a weapon. Of course, sometimes "do not use knowledge as a weapon" becomes an excuse not to be in knowledge. I say, drop all your defences.  Anyone can make a mistake - even you. Do not defend your mistakes, just accept them and move on. When you are totally defenceless, that is when you will be completely strong. See the whole past as a "happening" and the present as a "doing". If you see the past as a "doing", then ego and regret come along.  And when you see the present as a "happening", then laziness and unawareness set in. If you apply the "doing" for the future, it brings tension and worry. If you apply the "happening" for the future, it might bring s...

Trust in the love that God has for you.

Bangalore Ashram, India, 17th February 2000 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 12 - Mistakes Blessed are those who do not see a mistake as a mistake. It is hard not to see your own mistake. Outwardly you may justify yourself or try to prove your innocence to someone else, but a mistake pricks the conscience. Do not justify yourself. Instead, feel the prick of the mistake. That very pinch will take you out of the mistake. A mistake is something that brings misery to you in the long run. So why would someone knowingly commit a mistake? When you point out a mistake to someone, do you see him separate from you or do you make him feel a part of you? Do your words make him more stressed or do they create more awareness in him?  Often you do not point out someone’s mistake when it is required but not pointing out a mistake, with due consideration to time and place is also a mistake. When you make a new mistake, it is not a mistake. Instead, you have learned a valu...

Fear

Rishikesh, India, 6th April, 1997 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 9 - Fear Because fear is love standing upside down, everything that can be interpreted with love can also be interpreted with fear. A child clinging to its mother can be understood in both ways - the child clings out of love, or out of fear.  This primal instinct of fear can be totally transformed through awareness of Divine love. Fear is an impression of the past reflecting the future of the present. When people deny fear, they become egocentric, when they recognise and accept fear, they go beyond it - they become free from it. Total lack of fear is possible only in utter chaos or in utmost orderliness.  Neither a saint nor a fool has fear, but everywhere in between there is fear. Fear is essential to preserve orderliness in the world. It is a primal instinct. Fear of death preserves life. Fear of wrong maintains right. Fear of sickness encourages hygiene. Fear of misery makes you ri...

Mistakes

European Ashram, Bad Antogast, Germany 24 July, 1996 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 11 - Mistakes Wanting to correct a mistake brings doership and doership is the foundation for mistakes. Those who try to correct mistakes get caught up in more mistakes, but those who recognise them are freed. When you acknowledge a mistake, you try to justify it without taking responsibility for it and sometimes you accept that you made a mistake but you feel guilty about it. Mistakes are dropped when you are troubled by your conscience - viveka - or when you experience grief. There may be flaws in any action, any situation or any person. Treat a flaw as you would treat a flower. Just as a flower has to wither away with time, so does a flaw.  A devotee asked, "Please forgive me if I have committed a mistake". Why should you be forgiven? You ask for forgiveness because you feel a pinch and you want to be free from it, isn’t it? Let the pinch remain. The pinch will ...

Things That You Must Do

Cochin, India, 10th December 1998 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 8 - 3 Things That You Must Do 1. Look back in the past and see that it was futile feeling insecure. This gives you strength.  2. Know that there are good people on this planet. They will always come to your help. There is a power which is going to guide you and help you out. With this wisdom and understanding, get over insecurity. 3. Third is to get rid of prejudice. There are many types of prejudice. There is prejudice between generations where young people will not sit and share with senior citizens.  There is a generation gap. There is prejudice about class, about gender, about religion, culture, language, and so on in many parts of the world, so many types of prejudices. Wisdom is to rise above prejudice and see the whole world as one family.  If everyone has this idea of a one world family, there will be no war, no crime and none of the problems that we are facing in the wor...

Austerity

Cochin, India, 3rd December 1998 Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change Day 7 - Austerity Austerity is often mistaken for poverty or self-denial. It is neither. Austerity comes out of maturity. It is a sign of social health. People who practice austerity are often resentful of richness. This is a very pitiable state.  Such austerity is not born out of maturity but out of compulsion. True austerity has tolerance for richness and is never resentful. In fact, one who is mature will have pity for one who is not austere. Vanity is poverty of the spirit and austerity brings freedom from the pride of vanity. But taking pride in austerity is also vanity. Austerity is not opposed to celebration and vanity alone cannot be celebration.  Celebration dawns in the spirit. Only one who is rich in spirit can practice austerity. I may be rich materially but if he is poor in spirit, he can neither celebrate nor evolve. Austerity comes out of abundance, and austerity brings abun...

Gurudev’s Call

Meeting Gurudev was a lifelong dream, one that had eluded me despite attending his darshans from a distance. The desire to speak to him, to express my deep connection, remained unfulfilled until June 2023. Gurudev was back from his tour, and I couldn’t contain my excitement upon learning that he would grace the Art of Living Centre in Bangalore with his darshan.  Hope surged within me; this was my chance to glimpse the spiritual luminary and, perhaps, exchange a few words. As my wife and I reached the center, eager anticipation gave way to disappointment. The tickets for the darshan, scheduled inside the majestic Vishalakshi Mandap, were sold out. We were left with one last glimmer of hope – to stand outside the hall, waiting for Gurudev to pass by in his car. Anxiety welled up in my chest as dark clouds gathered overhead. What if the heavens opened up, forcing us to leave? What if my ailing leg, undergoing treatment, couldn’t bear the wait? My silent prayer to Gurudev ...

You just can't miss the Hollow and Empty Meditations with Gurudev!!!!!!!

Here's one of my dearest stories! Eversince I heard experiences from people who did an advance course (Advance Meditation Program ('AMP')Art of Silence course at Triveni Ashram in Dec 2019 wherein Gurudev met everyone and conducted some sessions, I had been really very jealous and was super desperate to experience Gurudev's session at AMP. Soon after this, an AMP got announced at Vasad Ashram, new year special where Gurudev was going to come for a session too...in first week of Jan... Gurudev was going to be in Germany and then in Gujarat...I immediately took the first step of enrolling and little did I know, it was just beginning of enhancing my longing to meet Him. Things weren't working out well at office and I couldn't seek leave for the course and told Gurudev, even if you come, how will I speak to my senior for leave since my senior got an idea of my resignation thoughts. Well, Gurudev extended His stay in Germany and couldn't come to Vasad...

The Dream Job

I completed my Masters in May 2012 with a lot of hardships due to psychological and relationship issues. With the help and guidance of Guruji’s Kriya, Meditation and Knowledge I managed to sail through the hardship and come out victorious with flying colors. With immense gratitude after my post graduation,  I immersed myself in Seva (Service), Sadhana (Meditation) and Satsang (Singing in devotion of the Lord) and kept my eyes open for job opportunities. Sri Sri The trouble started when a job opportunity would not arise, I would reach the last round of every interview and then the opportunity would just go without a reason that I couldn’t comprehend. It was February 2013 and Sri Sri had come for his Mumbai tour. I was without a job since May 2012. Like any other devotee, I attended many satsangs around the city. One night, after a satsang, a few other devotees and me decided to follow Guruji and meet him personally at the place where he was residing. The place, as always...

His Grace is like the ocean, never ending.

Penning down your experience is just like a drop in this vast ocean of Divine love and grace. What we feel for our Master is so tough to express in words.  His Grace is like the ocean, never ending, and if you have faith in Him, everything happening to you seems to be the work of the Divine. I am trying to share one story out of the hundreds that I have experienced. This miracle happened a couple of years ago, when the ‘Sudarshan Kriya’ was a mere exercise for me and ‘DSN’ was a personality development course. At that time, I did not know the real power of the course. But after the DSN, my life changed. We had been asked by our DSN teacher, Anandji, to make a small wish, which we wanted to materialize in the next 45 days. Our teacher assured us that this would happen. I thought, ‘This is my turn to test Guruji’ and wished for a personal meeting with him in the next 45 days. My head would say it’s not possible, but my heart said it could be possible. So when Guruji was i...

I surrender myself completely.

Jai Gurudev! I was vomiting blood. On the 3rd of March, 2023 I was admitted in the hospital. I was in the ICU for 12 days. After the C T scan I was diagnosed with T B.  I am a chronic asthmatic patient since the age of 5. I had Corona earlier. I have had 2 operations . Earlier, I had blacked out and was taken to a nearby clinic. By God's grace , I survivd. This time the doctors could not take me out of the ventilator. They tried twice but they could not take me out. Then a seeker on the spiritual path, spoke to our Guruji, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji in a vision. She prayed to Him and He saved my life. I could come out of the ventilator the 3rd time. I came back from the hospital on the 16th of March. I was taking Akurit 4 for 6 months, 3 tablets a day. Then after a CT. scan I am taking RHE FD once daily. I have to take one tablet for 4 months. I have got IBS-D. Irritable bowel syndrome- Diarrhoea . I cannot take any medicine as it is clashing wit...
