KARMA

Bangalore Ashram 24 Apr 1996  India KARMA  Strange are the ways of Karma. The more you understand it, the more amazed you become. It brings people together and separates them. It causes some to be weak and some to be strong. It makes some rich and some poor. All the struggle in the world, whatever it may be, is the bondage of Karma. It cuts across all logic and reasoning. This understanding will lift you from getting stuck to the events or personalities and help you in your Journey to the Self.  Question: So a thief can say it is my karma to steal?  Answer: Then the police have the karma to catch him too! (Laughter)  Only human life has the ability to be free from Karma. And only a few thousands aim to be free from it. Only through Grace can the bondage of Karma be burnt. Performing actions cannot eliminate Karma. ...

The spiritual and the material knowledge have to be combined

Chapter 2 - Neither Yes Nor No  Day 21  Blinds man walks into darkness, if he catches hold of any of this. The gross material universe is governed by the subtle forces. The subtle forces are called the Devas. The microcosm and macrocosm are connected. There are 9 planets in our solar system and they have an impact on our mind-body complex.  They have an impact on the grains, the plants that grow on this planet. The ancient people had a science of tracking this connection. A particular part of your body is also connected to this, like they said that the planet Mars is connected to the liver and is also connected to chickpeas. Similarly the Sun is connected to the eyes and rice. Sesame seed, teeth, crow and Saturn are connected in the same way. Each animal brings down certain cosmic vibration onto the planet. So the Divine forces, Devas are carried onto the planet by certain specific things. Remember Devas are not Brahman. Devas are particular energy patterns in...

Sri Sri’s Blessings Are Always There To Guide Me To The Right Path

I have always felt connected to Sri Sri, even before meeting him. After my 12th grade exams, I visited the Art of Living International Center in Bangalore with my family. At that point in time, my mind was very unstable and confused because even though my exams had gone fine, I had another big decision in front of me: what field should I major in? What field do I choose to establish a career in. To top it all, my result date was rapidly approaching. Several people had given me guidance about which field of study to choose, which confused me further. I had decided to simply ask Guruji what to pursue because I knew that would be the best guidance. There were way too many fields, and many people for guidance who had different opinions about each course.  I decided to follow what Guruji would say, that would be the best guidance ever. We went to the secreteriate to request for an appointment to meet Sri Sri. We were told to come back later. This went on for the next three d...

You are very generous. You have fulfilled all of my wishes

Question - Gurudev, you are very generous. You have fulfilled all of my wishes, but I have not fulfilled all the commitments I made to you. I want to know whether, will you punish me, or will you keep fulfilling my further wishes. Gurudev Sri Sri - (Laughter) Why should I reveal it to you now? I will leave you guessing about it. You better fulfil your commitments before you wish for something more. I do not want to make you a greedy person. Otherwise you will become so greedy. When you know that your desires are getting fulfilled, you should desire for bigger things, not just things for yourself. Have desires for the nation, for the world, for humanity. If your desires are for achieving something bigger, and bringing this knowledge to the people, then that is more meaningful. Then you are growing. You should take a sankalpa, Let the knowledge of Vedanta reach thousands of people, let Yoga reach thousands of people.' You should cultivate such desires in you. Actually you cannot cult...

What is the final outcome of those who achieve and those who don't?

Question - Gurudev, after being born as a human being, do we have to achieve something? What is the final outcome of those who achieve and those who don't? Does every person need to have a goal? Gurudev Sri Sri - A life without a goal will not be a happy one. Without a goal, the mind and intellect will not go in the right direction. So, a goal is needed in life. And the goal is that we should progress and others should benefit because of us.

What is the meaning of Anugraha

Question - Gurudev, what is the meaning of Anugraha and what role does it play in our life? What are the things that one should keep in mind to experience more of it in Life? Gurudev Sri Sri - Anugraha means grace. Nothing is possible in life without anugraha. When you receive a lot without making efforts for it, then it is said that you are blessed with anugraha. Usually you work hard at your job and then receive your salary. So you say, ‘I have earned my money’. But if someone gives you a gift, you do not say, ‘I have earned these gifts’. Can something that is earned be called a gift? No. You receive gifts without any efforts. So when you receive a great gift or an award that you feel you did not deserve, then that is called anugraha. When we receive something that we are not deserving of, or which exceeds our capabilities, then that is what is called Grace. When we see that in our life, we have received far more than what we deserve or are capable of, then gratitude dawns in us. We ...

Just act with joy

Chapter 6 - Love Is Beyond Proof  Day 50 There is another story about Krishna. Once He had sat down to eat, persons were serving him. He was eating the food when he suddenly got up in the middle of the meal and ran, saying, “My devotee is in trouble.” Everyone kept saying, “Oh, no, don't go, eat the food and then go”  He went to the door and then He came back. He said, “He was calling me, but then he took care of himself.” There are many stories, many events in your own life when you were really desperate and when you dropped all your hang ups the help definitely came.  But if you are holding onto a handle with one hand and then trying to jump, it is like holding onto the diving board and wanting to swim. You are neither in the water nor are you on the diving board. You are hanging somewhere in between.  If it appears that you are losing, everything is going haywire, don't worry about losing anything because you have offered all this, it is already done. Until that p...

Knowledge about the self is Vidya

Chapter 2 - Neither Yes Nor No  Day 20  Those who follow the path of avidya enter into blinding darkness. Those who are engrossed in vidya also enter into a greater blinding darkness. To simplify this in today's language, I would bring you back to quantum mechanics.  Quantum mechanics says everything is made up of vibrations, energy, whereas classical chemistry describes the differences in all substances - one proton is hydrogen, two is helium, metals are different from gases and so on.  Quantum mechanics and classical chemistry both are essential. If you are stuck in classical chemistry - periodic table, you are limited, you have no idea what's happening in reality. If you are thinking only about quantum mechanics view, everything is the same. Whether stone or a handful of grain, it is the same.  A chair or door is the same. Here the Rishi says if you are in Avidya. Avidya is all the sciences that we have - everything about body, about nature, about creation, a...

Valentine's Day, make the Divine your valentine

This Valentine's Day, make the Divine your valentine. See the Divine in your valentine and make the divinity your valentine. Have the same love for everyone, with different flavours. You cannot behave the same way with everyone, but you can love all of them.  Love transcends behaviour and etiquette. There are three kinds of love. The love that comes out of charm, that which comes out of comfort and divine love. The love that comes out of charm does not last long. It comes out of unfamiliarity or attraction.  In this, you lose the attraction fast, and boredom sets in. This love may diminish and bring along with it a fear, uncertainty, insecurity and sadness. The love that comes out of comfort and familiarity grows, but it has no thrill, no enthusiasm, joy, or fire to it. For example, you are more comfortable with an old friend who is a familiar person rather than with a new person.  Divine love supersedes both the above. It has an ever present newness. The clos...
