PEELING BARK TREES - CONCLUSION

We've been studying about peeling barks and you might be curious to know why trees have this strange mechanism of shedding their bark and what purpose does it serve?

In the natural process of growth as the tree trunk increases in girth, it sheds the outer older layers of the bark which falls down to recycle the nutrients and replenishes the soil.
In some species this is more noticeable while in others this may happen at a subtle level.

There may also be instances of disease when trees shed their bark to expose insect larvae and fungi that reside under the layers of bark. It is a natural protective mechanism adopted by trees where if the exposed layer of bark has infestations they can be treated accordingly.
