Chapter 5 -  *Day 23* When you sit with the Master, listen and learn, you understand something deeper because you get in touch with that inner aspect of yours that is immortal.  With your self effort you gain the power and with the help Master you get in touch with Knowledge. The Master cannot make you powerful.  He gives you a glimpse, that seed, that is essential for illustration, but by your self effort and your attention on it, you grow into that power. By the self effort you gain power and through Knowledge you attain immortality. So, there are three things essentially, your self effort with the grace of Master.  These two things together may bring the Knowledge in you and that Knowledge brings you immortality. In July 2018, i came to Canada to join my husband and was filled with mixed emotions as i left my family, friends, job, independence and teachers behind. Though i was thankful to Gurudev that i got the opportunity to travel to Canada to experience a new country and culture but i had my doubts about finding a new job. I dragged myself through my SSC (10th standard exams), just dreaming of getting into the best possible college in Mumbai. My dream surely came true when I took Science in R. D. National College & W. A. Science College in Bandra. However things didn’t quite work out well with the studies part and I dropped out of FYJC (11th standard) due to my disinterest in Sciences. Art of Living came into my life at a time when I was in a totally miserable condition, when I needed a helping hand from the Divine, as I had given up all hope. Once in June 2014, as I walked from my room to the amphitheater for the evening satsang at the Art of Living Bangalore ashram, I stopped on the way as I noticed Sri Sri’s car parked outside a hall which was under construction. Two people were waiting for him outside. I peeped in to take a look – there he was, small in height as compared to the tall men he was surrounded with, but towering above them all in demeanor. After a rather unhappy and emotionally turbulent day, I did not feel like going for satsang. I just wanted to hide in my room and not bother anyone with the sadness and pain that I felt. But here I was, waiting for my Guru outside that hall. He was giving instructions for further construction of the hall. In Ayurveda, there is a practice called Dhootnadi. You go to a doctor on behalf of someone and show your pulse to the doctor. While you’re showing your pulse, you think of the person for whom you have come to collect the medicine. This is called Dhootnadi.          It means checking the pulse of a messenger. A messenger comes to collect medicine from the doctor, the messenger’s pulse is taken by the doctor and the doctor gives the medicine for the person for whom the messenger has come. This is Dhootnadi, reading the nadi by taking the pulse of a messenger.         It works because anybody you think of, their emotions and their state of mind latches onto you.
