Five Types of Restlessness

Five Types of Restlessness There are five types of restlessness.  1. The first type of restlessness is due to the place you are in. When you move away from that place, the street or the house, you immediately feel better. Chanting, singing, children playing and laughing can change this atmospheric restlessness. If you chant and sing, the vibration in the place changes. 2. The second type of restlessness is in the body. Eating the wrong food or vata aggravating food, eating at odd times, not exercising, and overworking can all cause a physical restlessness. The remedy for this is exercise, moderation in work habits and going on a vegetable or juice diet for one or two days. 3. The third type of restlessness is mental restlessness . It is caused by ambition, strong thoughts, likes or dislikes. Knowledge alone can cure this restlessness. The 4 kinds of attitude you can develop to handle your own mind

The 4 kinds of attitude you can develop to handle your own mind Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji :   1) Friendliness: Be friendly with people who are happy. If you are not friendly with happy people, you will be jealous. This is because you think that your enemy is happy, and you cannot tolerate your enemy being happy. So, shake hands with happy people. Such an attitude does a lot of good to your mind. 2) Compassion: Do not be friendly with people who are miserable, instead, have compassion for them. If you are friendly with unhappy people you will become unhappy. And if you become unhappy, you can never help them to come out of their misery.  Many people have gotten into trouble by being friendly with unhappy people; both become miserable. It is like a doctor going to a patient who is sick, and the doctor also becomes sick. If the doctor also thinks, ‘How can I alone be healthy? Let me also share the patient’s misery’, then who will help the patient then? So, what ...

What are the ways to overcome fears?

Question - Gurudev, what are the ways to overcome fears? Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji - There are Four ways to overcome fears - 1. Observation You observe fear. When fear comes, what happens? Some sensation arises in the chest. Observe, go deep into the observation of the sensation. Every emotion in the mind creates a corresponding sensation in the body. When you observe the sensation, then the emotion gets transformed as a sensation in the body and disappears. See that? This observation is a meditation technique. You observe the sensation and the sensation gets released and the mind becomes free. 2. Belongingness If observation is difficult, then have a feeling of belonging. I belong to God, or God is taking care of me. Or there is my teacher, my master, to whom I belong, my master is taking care of me. The Divine is taking care of me. By having a sense of belonging, the fear goes away. You belong to somebody. You belong to God. You belong to the Master. You belong to ...

Learn to let go of Control

Question: Learn to let go of Control Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji :  Many of us have the problem of letting go of control. This results in anxiety, restlessness and sours relationships. Wake up and see, are you really in control? What are you in control of? You are not in control when you are sleeping or dreaming. You are not in control of thoughts and emotions coming to you. You may choose to express it or not, but they come to you without your permission! Similarly, do you think you are in control of all the events in your life or in the world? That is a joke! When you look at things from this angle, you need not be afraid of losing control, because you have none! Whether you realise it or not, when you let go of your sense of control, that is the time you truly relax. Your identification of being somebody does not let you relax totally and it keeps your domain limited. Intention will be strong only when we learn to let go. You have to let go of the breath to enjo...
