Ayurveda and Plastic Surgery

Lord McCaulay wrote to Queen Victoria, unless you destroy the spiritual heritage of this country, you cannot rule this country. He wrote a letter to Queen Victoria, it is still available.           Lord McCaulay when he came to India he travelled the length and breadth of India and he said this country is so rich, I couldn't find one beggar and one sick person in this country. And the cultural heritage is so strong, you can never rule this country unless you destroy the spiritual heritage of this country. So then they brought a number of startling rules. They first made a law, barring all architects to work. That's why they made Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. All the architects were asked not to work. So after the eighteenth century, there is not a single building made by Indian architects in all the British provinces.           Then they put a bar on the weavers, so that they can bring all the clothes from Leicester and...

Ayurveda has been rediscovering

And in those days without internet, without cellphone, Columbus tried to find India and found America! Why would he try to find India?            That was a time when this knowledge was beyond Cambodia. Even today in Cambodia, huge temples are there. In Mahabharat, you must have heard of Kambhoj. That's Cambodia.           Revival of this education is essential and its only been in the last two decades that Ayurveda has been revived. It's good scientists are rediscovering. - Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The Golden Veil

An Intimate Note To The Sincere Seeker 108. The Golden Veil Craving comes from encouraging the thought of pleasure.  Whether you encourage a mundane thought or a Divine thought, they both bring you pleasure. Worldly thoughts lead you from pleasure down to indulgence, disappointment and dejection. Divine thoughts take you free from pleasure up to bliss, intelligence, and commitment to service.  A worldly thought brings pleasure as memory, yet the actual experience of that pleasure may not be as great as the memory. A Divine thought brings in the transformation of consciousness.  *Question:* What is a Divine thought? *Gurudev:* I am not the body, I am bliss, satchitananda; I am unbounded space, I am love, I am peace, I am light.   *Question:* What is a worldly thought? *Gurudev:* It is a thought about money, sex, food, power, status and self-image.  Truth is hidden by the golden veil of the mundane. Pierce through this glittering sheath and know y...

Meditation is food for the soul

When you are hungry, sponteneously you eat something. If you are thirsty, you want to drink some water. In the same way, the soul yearns for meditation. Meditation is food for the soul. ~ Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

What is meditation ?

Meditation is total rest; wanting nothing, being nothing, doing nothing and yet having total alertness effortlessly. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

In meditation healing can happen

In meditation, healing can happen. When the mind is calm, alert and contented, then it is like a laser beam – it is very powerful, and healing can happen. To attain a perfect state of health, one has to be mentally calm, steady and emotionally stable. Swasthya means health. It also means being in one's self. Swasthya or health is not just confined to the body and the mind, but it is also connected with the consciousness. The clearer one’s consciousness, the more one’s sense of well-being increases. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Nurturing Gratitude Through Meditation

Nurturing gratitude through meditation A drop of water on a hot plate takes little time to disappear. It makes some noise, and it evaporates. Gratitude in our life seems to disappear even faster.  We seem to forget how much we have grown, how much we have received. The mind seeks more and more. And in every wanting of more and more, it forgets the past very easily.  Everyone is grateful, but for the moment and then it is finished. When gratitude in you stays, that very gratitude flows out of as grace.  - Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
